Pictures of Sandbank

I have decided to arrange a sightseeing plan to Maldives by my own, because it would be so expensive if I booked a package tour in new year period.

I could have purchased a flight ticket to Etihad via Abu Dhabi from Japan for around $1300 or so, but hotels there were very expensive!

You must expect more than $400 even at cheapest hotels, if you book privately. The most expensive ones are over $1000. That must have been special prices for the new year.

What is more, you need to prepare for airport transfers and Gala diners (over $100 per person).

Even if you found cheap hotels in  for around $200, you have to pay for the seaplane to get there, so it would have been expensive anyway.

“Trouble… I might better purchase packaged tours”
I was about to give up, but at the moment I found the name of this island on the website ‘Booking.com.’

 What was that?
It’s Maafushi, the island of fishers.
Maafushi is one at the south western tip of Malé islands.

Maafushi is an island where local people live their daily life, but also lots of accommodations such as guest houses are being built because there are many famous resorts like “Biyaadhoo” “Anantara”, ”Kandooma”, “Rihiveli”, “Fun Island”, ” Vadoo”, “Olhuveli”, “Embudu”, surrounding the island, where you can travel to those resorts easily on excursion.

So, stay at Maafushi and go to those 7 different resorts every day. It makes your trip more valuable!

You can enjoy many activities such as dolphin watching, you will also be able to swim with them!

Maafushi has more than 50 guest houses in the island. You will be able to find a hotel with beautiful view of the sea in every single room, or also a small guest house which only has 5 rooms, all depends on your need.

The reason I recommend Maafushi is…

1, There are lots of cheap accommodations with a view of the beautiful sea. Most of those buildings are less than 5 years old.

2, You can go on excursions to many different resorts cheap and easily.

3, Cost of living and foods are generally cheap

4, There are lots of shops like convenience store. You can visit with nothing in your hand.

5, You will easily make good Maldivian friends because the local people are very friendly.

6, You can go to the island from the airport only for 2 $ by ferry; as long as you arrive to the airport by around 1 pm.

Also, a new service called “speed boat service” was launched, which allows you to travel to Maafushi for 25 $, at anytime during morning time to 10 pm at night.

7, You will feel comfortable to go anywhere in the island because lots of travellers enjoy sightseeing alone.

8. You will encounter many adorable local kids and kittens.

9. You will have a close look to the local lifestyles from the outlooks of the local schools and mosques.

10. Meals and drinks at local restaurants were awesome!

11. You can walk to every hotel because Maafushi is such a small island.

You might not love Maafushi if you care about that…

1, Maafushi is strong religious island so you are prohibited to drink alcohol inside the island. You have to travel to nearby resorts or go on a ferry to drink.

2, If you arrive to the airport late at night, you have to ask your hotel to charter speed boat. The service costs 180$ - 200$ per boat. So that means if you ride alone, you will be charged the whole price, but if there are others, the price will be divided.

3 The island itself is not a resort, so you will see lots of trash on road. The sights are not perfect because of the buildings under construction.

4, Maafushi’s beaches are beautiful, but there are relatively small number of fishes. Also, if you step in, your feet hurt because of the big rocks; Go on excursion to “Biyaadhoo” or “Fihalhohi” if you want to swim. The beach has powder sand and tons of fishes!

My best friend Mr.Amir is planning to open a new hotel in March 2018. He is a nice and gentle person who has been on a TV programme in Japan. If you have a chance, stay at his new AKASHA BEACH HOTEL. booking.com
